“No Faith in Faith”: Texas Organizing Project Rallies Outside Dallas County DA Faith Johnson’s Office, demanding answers

DALLAS (WBAP/ KLIF News) – A press conference Monday by an activist group, targets the republican-appointed Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson.

The Texas Organizing Project (TOP) said Johnson has repeatedly “refused to be accountable to the community” by ignoring requests by the group to meet and answer questions.

Since Johnson is now running for the seat to which she was initially appointed, the organization is demanding that she make her positions clear.

The group said Johnson has never made her position clear since being appointed to the office by Governor Greg Abbott.

Joe Estelle, who was leading the rally dropped off a questionnaire because he said he is concerned about the Criminal Justice System.

Estelle said he wants to know what Johnson’s plans are to ensure Dallas County moves away from mass incarceration and treats defendants with fairness. Some other concerns regarded police shootings and policies that criminalizes families of color.

He said he hopes Johnson replies in the next couple of weeks so the group can make a decision on who to support before the election.

In response to the request, Johnson sent out a statement saying, “We have received documentation, including a questionnaire from the Texas Organizing Project (TOP). However, we have not received a request to meet to discuss the concerns raised by the group. I am always willing and welcome the opportunity to discuss issues that may impact the Dallas County residents. My record speaks for itself regarding my willingness to meet with everyone. In fact, in 2017, I personally attended and participated in over 560 community meetings and events, over 275 staff meetings, and opened 14 new community satellite offices around Dallas County. Already in 2018, I am exceeding those statistics. As your Dallas County District Attorney, it is my goal to remain accessible and transparent. Should the TOP representatives desire a meeting, they are welcome to contact my office at 214-653-3600.”
