DALLAS (AP) — Prosecutors say a North Texas man must serve life in prison with no chance for parole in the 2016 shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
The Dallas Morning News reports 22-year-old Christopher Rubio of Irving was convicted Wednesday of capital murder. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty so Rubio received an automatic life prison term.
Investigators say Rubio fatally shot 19-year-old Elizabeth Adams and 20-year-old James Tews. The victims were hiding in the bathroom of her mother’s apartment in Irving when Rubio stormed in and shot through the door.
Authorities say Adams had moved out of the apartment she shared with Rubio and took along their two children. Her mother lived in the same apartment complex.
The victim’s children were staying with another relative.
