GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Grapevine man is facing up to a year in prison for a hate crime.
Amanda McNew with the Grapevine Police Department said 64-year-old Glenn Halfin pleaded guilty to harassing an African-American family at his apartment complex.
The incidents started in October of 2017 when the family was living at the Colonial Village Apartments.
Halfin tied a noose around a doll’s neck and hung it from the railing in front of the family’s apartment and did some damage to their cars.
“These were hateful acts of harassment and we want to stop that as soon as we can. Fortunately, these acts were stopped,” she said.
McNew said this case had special circumstances so the officer working the case reached out to the FBI to have the case declared a hate crime.
Halfin was arrested last December.
“Anytime someone is targeted especially for a hate crime there is always going to be a threat there or a level of fear in some case,” he said.
He will be sentenced later this year.
