Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A man wrongly identified by Dallas Police in 2016 during the height of a police ambush that ultimately left five officers dead, is suing the city and police department.

The federal lawsuit filed monday alleges dallas police detained Mark Hughes and his brother Cory Hughes without reasonable suspicion or probable cause.

The suit says the department had posted a photo of Mark Hughes holding his rifle and asked for the public’s help in finding him.

Hughes was carrying the weapon during a rally that preceded the shooting.

Hughes was ultimately forced to close his business and move his family to a hotel as a result of the misidentification.

A Dallas police spokesman declined to comment.
