Dallas County Confirms First Human Case of West Nile for the Season

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County Health and Human Services has announced the first human case of West Nile virus in Dallas County.

The patient is a resident of Irving.

Infections can cause neurological complications. Milder symptoms include fever, headache and muscle aches. There is no vaccine or specific treatment for the virus.

The best way to avoid exposure is to avoid mosquito bites.

The health department is reminding residents to drain standing water, avoid being outside during dusk and dawn, dress in long loose-fitting clothing and use insect repellant with the chemical DEET.
