Crews Rescuing Man from Irving Trench

IRVING (WBAP/KLIF) – Crews from the Irving Fire department worked for several hours Monday to free a construction worker trapped in a trench on Hurd Drive.
Assistant Fire Chief J. Taylor said loose soil trapped the man from the waist down.

“A cubic yard of soil weighs up to 2,000 pounds,” said Taylor. “When soil breaks loose like that it can move up to 45 mph so you can try to get out of the way buy a human just isn’t that quick.”

Taylor said the man was responsive during the entire rescue and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The Coppell Fire Department assisted with the rescue.
