AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Stay calm on the highway this Fourth of July because AAA Texas predicts a record breaking 2.9 million drivers will be taking to the roads. Daniel Armbruster with the company urges drivers to keep their emotions in check and avoid road rage. He also recommends people avoid rush hour times on July 3rd due to the heavy amount of people traveling.
“With so many people on the roadways practice patience, try to plan ahead, leave early, avoid rush hour times and if you can have a backup route and avoid those main arteries such as Interstate 35,” Armbruster said.
Armbruster said you should never “brake check” another vehicle, especially if they are riding close behind you. This maneuver is very dangerous and can easily cause an accident or further anger the other driver. He also said to never respond or do anything to antagonize an angry driver.
“You want to avoid eye contact, don’t get out of your vehicle, of course never make any type of obscene gestures and contact 911 if you need too,” Armbruster said.
Armbruster said its completely normal for drivers to get frustrated behind the wheel but we should not let our behavior put others in danger.
