Dockless Scooters Hit the Streets of Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dockless scooters are being rented and ridden on the streets of Dallas.
Less than a week after the Dallas City Council launched a pilot program for the scooters, companies have started putting them out to rent with a mobile app. Jeff Roberts is the Operations Manager for Lime Dallas and said at a kick-off event Monday that all the scooters are motorized.

“They max out at 15 mph,” said Roberts. “They are electric assist so you have to push off as you get started. They are GPS tracked so you can find them in the app and then we can find them to charge them.”

Dockless bike programs have caught some grief in the City of Dallas because of the high number of bikes and the condition of some of them. Roberts said that because each scooter is retrieved at the end of each day there shouldn’t be an issue with lost or vandalized scooters. Dockless scooter programs have also been launched in San Diego, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Paris.

The Dallas City Council will evaluate the program after 6 months.
