PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Plano is using basketball in an effort to create a bond between police and community.
The second “Dream Court” has opened at 3380 Sherwood Drive. It’s made of sport-court material painted with dark and steel blue.
Plano Police Chief Gregory Rushin said the purpose of the program is to unite communities with local law enforcement through basketball.
“It does have our logo of the police department on the court itself and it’s trying to bring the police and the youth of the community closer and to build those relationships,” he said.
The court will provide kids with a friendly place to exercise as well as an environment to benefit from the life lessons that can be learned through playing basketball.
“It can only bring us closer,” said Rushin.
Both courts were donated by Nancy Lieberman Charities. Since the charity started the idea of the Dream Courts in 2011, there have been 53 courts built nationwide.
