A 30 year old Garland man hospitalized with a couple of gunshots now faces several charges related to a police chase involving children Saturday night. It ended with police firing at the vehicle he was driving, apparently not realizing an 11 and 4 year old child were in the car with the suspect.
Authorities say investigation leads them to believe the suspect Thomas Christopher Irwin was high at the time they say he ran into a cemetery, then took aim at them, before leading them on a mile long chase. It ended on South Garland Road, with the suspect taken into custody. The children were not injured.
Irwin faces aggravated assault against a public servant; two counts of endangering a child, driving while intoxicated – 3rd offense, and evading arrest in a vehicle. Once released from hospital, officials say he’ll be taken to jail.
