Dallas Man Hospitalized After Brief Standoff, Apartment Fire

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A man who broke into a friend’s apartment and barricaded himself inside has been taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

It happened Thursday morning at an apartment complex on Bentwood Trail near Preston Road in far North Dallas.

The Dallas Police Department’s Officer Tamika Dameron said the situation started after a man called 9-1-1 and said one of his acquaintances came into his apartment while he was in the shower and eventually followed him outside while making threats.

“The suspect stated that he was going to harm himself and the victim,” she said.

The situation quickly escalated. Dameron said the suspect, who has not been identified, went back into the unit, threw furniture outside and lit the apartment fire.

“He was causing self-inflicting wounds to his abdomen,” he said.

The suspect eventually surrendered and was taken to a hospital for his injuries.
