Children Burned in Guatemala Volcano Eruption Being Treated in Texas

GALVESTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Six children who suffered burns after a volcano eruption in Guatemala were taken by a military plane to Shriners Hospital in Galveston for treatment late Wednesday night.

Guatemalan officials say that 99 people are confirmed dead, with many more still missing.

“Once you get in this building you are ours until you are 18,” said Dr. Stephen Wolf with Shriners Galveston. “We care for all of these children and we don’t expect them to pay for it.”

The children were all burned on at least 15 percent of their bodies and will be treated and rehabilitated in Galveston.
