DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The teenager accused of shooting and seriously injuring a student at Italy High School earlier this year made his first court appearance today. The Ellis County teen is accused of opening fire in a school cafeteria with a semi-automatic handgun.
The suspect, who is not named because he is a juvenile, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Witnesses painted a picture of a respectful, but temperamental boy in the first court appearance, in months, for the alleged Italy High School shooter.
An investigator with the Ellis County Sheriffs Office told the court the shooter had previous instances of violence, including slapping a student and stabbing a family dog to death. The psychiatrist who evaluated him says he had an above average support system from both family and school, and that he did not have frequent outbursts, but the outbursts were significant when they happened.
An investigator who testified says the shooter left notes for his parents apologizing for what he was about to do before reportedly shooting a girl multiple times in the school cafeteria in January. He also pointed out several incidents from his past, including once when he stabbed and killed a family dog.
The boy is charged with two counts of aggravated assault after shooting a girl he was interested in four times, and shooting at another boy, barely missing his head.
