NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Seven North Texas Sheriff’s Offices have banded together to form a unit designated to stop drug and human trafficking.
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said the North Texas Criminal Interdiction Unit is the only network of its kind in the entire country.
“This is elected officials connecting the dots standing as one against the evil doers threatening our community,” he said.
Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner said the unit makes it easier for law enforcement to fight crime in the North Texas area as a whole.
“My deputy from Collin County can go to Sheriff Akin’s jurisdiction on U.S. 287 and he can make a lawful arrest and he has the authority to do so,” he said.
Sine the beginning of operations in December, the unit has already seized almost 1500 pounds of marijuana, 60 pounds of meth and rescued two missing children.
The participating counties include Collin, Tarrant, Hunt, Grayson, Parker, Rockwall and Wise.
