FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) — Some parents in Fort Worth are expected to attend Tuesday night’s school board meeting, in protest of the way McClean Middle School’s Sixth Grade Center handled a sex-ed lesson in April.
The watchdog group “Stand for Fort Worth” claims students were taught about transgenders and sexual orientation, even though parents were told beforehand the lesson would cover abstinence.
“This was a classic bait and switch by a school district that sees themselves in place of parents, not in partnership with parents,” said Zeb Pent, spokesperson for Stand for Fort Worth.
The group claims students were not allowed to bring their textbooks home, and that some parents were not allowed to see them. It also claims one student was told not to tattle to his parents.
As of Tuesday morning, an online petition demanding the district be more transparent has nearly 400 signature.
“When a 12-year-old is allowed to take his or her mathbook home, but not his or her health book home,” Pent said, “you have a district that is concealing matters from parents purposefully.”
Tuesday night’s meeting begins at 5:30pm.
