Death Penalty Sought in Shooting that Claimed the Life of a Dallas Police Officer

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas County Grand Jury has returned indictments for the man charged in the shooting death of Dallas Police Officer Rogelio Santander at a Home Depot in northeast Dallas in April.

Officer Crystal Almeida and Home Depot loss prevention officer Scott Painter were hurt in the shooting.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson, 30-year-old Armando Juarez was indicted on one count of Capital Murder, one county of Attempted Capital Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Public Servant.

“Each and every day our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line so that we may enjoy the peace of mind that comes with safety and security,” said D.A. Johnson. “We are grateful for their commitment to duty and heartbroken for their loss.  After thoroughly reviewing the evidence and careful consideration, I have decided I will seek the death penalty against Armando Juarez for the Capital Murder of Officer Rogelio Santander. We continue to pray for Officer Santander’s family, and for the continued recovery of Officer Crystal Almeida and loss prevention officer Scott Painter.”

Both Officer Almeida, and Scott Painter are home from the hospital.
