WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Gina Haspel has been sworn in as the new CIA Director. She’s the first female director in the agency’s 71-year history.
At Monday morning’s swearing in ceremony at CIA headquarters in Virginia, President Trump praised Haspel.
“There is no one in this country better qualified for this office than you. You live in the CIA. You live the CIA. You breathe the CIA and now you will lead the CIA,” he said.
Striking a different tone from his previous visit to the Central Intelligence Agency headquarters, Trump also hailed the agency staffers, calling them the “most elite intelligence professionals on the planet.”
Haspel thanked the “countless role models” who she said paved the way for her to be offered the position.
“As the director, I want the current CIA leadership team to be role models and mentors for our next generation of officers who will walk the streets of far flung capitals and put in late nights at headquarters and abroad,” she said.
She is replacing Mike Pompeo who left the agency last month to become President Trump’s new Secretary of State.
