DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Gas prices are skyrocketing in Texas.

Thursday AAA Texas reported the statewide average price of a gallon of regular unleaded is at $2.70 and still climbing.

The most expensive gas in Texas can be found in El Paso at an average of $2.99. In San Antonio and Amarillo motorists are enjoying the least expensive fuel, averaging $2.60.

Prices in Dallas average out at $2.78 per gallon, while in Arlington/Ft. Worth it’s a penny cheaper. Again, this was as of Thursday, May 17.

AAA spokesman Daniel Armbruster told the Denton Record Chronicle, “Texans are paying $7.42 more, on average, to fill up one tank of gas compared to this same day last year.” He added prices will continue to climb as we approach the holiday weekend at the end of the month. Armbruster also said, “Rising gas prices will not stop many Texans from traveling this Memorial Day, as AAA predicts the most people to travel away from home for the holiday since 2005.”
