DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Five families were evacuated in Melissa this afternoon after old dynamite was found in a nearby wooded area. Four sticks of dynamite were found on Covey Lane and officials said the age of the dynamite made it less stable.
Lt. Nick Bristow with the Collin County Sheriff’s Department says a decision was made to destroy the dynamite because that was deemed safer than transporting it.
McKinney Fire Department was the first on scene, followed by the Plano Bomb Squad to destroy the explosives. Reverse 9-1-1 calls were made to Melissa residents alerting them that a loud explosion might be heard in the area.
