Suspect Arrested in Robbery of Disabled Veteran

RICHLAND HILLS (WBAP/KLIF) – The suspect in an Aggravated Robbery of an elderly 69-year-old disabled veteran in Richland Hills has been identified and arrested, thanks to an anonymous tip.
Police responded to the Shell gas station at 7301 Airport Freeway in January in reference to a robbery. The male victim, an elderly disabled resident of Richland Hills, had been attacked and robbed of his wallet and truck. During the attack the man was dragged 15-20 feet and suffered a broken leg.
The man’s vehicle was later recovered in a nearby city.
Three months later Police received notification from Crime Stoppers, an anonymous crime tip hotline service, that a received tip identified the suspect. Richland Hills Police Investigators followed up on the lead, which resulted in obtaining a warrant for the arrest of Gary Lynn Smith of Fort Worth.
On Monday, May 7, 2018, with assistance from Fort Worth Police Department, Smith was arrested. He faces additional pending charges of evading arrest.
