PILOT POINT (WBAP/KLIF News) – Search crews continue to search for the body of a man presumed drowned after his canoe tipped over while fishing on a pond in Pilot Point Wednesday night.
A neighbor said they rushed to help the pair when they saw the canoe flip over but were only able to help one of them to safety.
They said they yelled for the man still in the water to grab the canoe but a language barrier prevented him from understanding.
The Denton County Sheriff’s Office said crews searched from 7:00 p.m Wednesday until 3:00 a.m. Thursday before taking a temporary break.
“Didn’t have any luck trying to locate the body last night. So, we’re back out this morning. Hopefully, we can find him,” he said.
Hinajosa said the goal is to provide closure for the victim’s family.
“If it was your family or my family…I’d want somebody to find my relative. So, that’s what we’re trying to do … is locate this person as soon as possible.
The Texas Game Warden is bringing a boat with sonar equipment in to try and locate the body.
The victim has not been identified.
