MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – The Collin County Commissioners Court voted Monday to call a $750 million dollar bond election in November.
The bond would fund expansion of roads and highways and parks and open space. The three propositions on the ballot include, $600 million for limited-access roadway, or LAR, projects; $140 million for arterial roads, including the reconstruction and rehabilitation of arterial roads; and $10 million for open space and parks.
Collin County Judge Keith Self says the bond won’t raise the overall tax rate in Collin County.
“We can do it out of the growth in the county, plus the appraisal rates, but mainly the growth,” said Judge Self. “The bottom line is the bond won’t raise the overall tax rate.”
Judge Self said it’s rapid growth in the county is creating a need for more roads and parks.
“We have got to start now to prepare for the transportation backbone that will support 2 million people two decades from now,” said Judge Self.
Another bond election is expected to be voted on within the next five years.
