DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Assist The Officer Foundation has started a page to donate to the families of both the fallen Dallas Police officer and his partner who were shot in the line of duty Tuesday afternoon.
27-year-old Rogelio Santander and his partner, Crystal Almeida, were shot when they responded to a disturbance at the Home Deport off of U.S. 75 and Forest Lane.

A suspect, armed with a gun, opened fire when an off-duty officer, Scott Painter, who was working loss prevention attempted to arrest him.
Santander died of his injured at Presbyterian Hospital Wednesday morning. Both Almeida and Painter are in critical condition.
Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata said donation from the community can make a large impact on an officer’s family in a time of crisis.
“Some of the families don’t live here,” said Mata. “So their costs in having to stay here through the illness, injuries and rehab, all those bills mount up quickly.”
