GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF) – A suspect involved in a stand off with Grand Prairie police outside the new IKEA store near Mayfield Road and the George Bush Turnpike has died after a shootout with officers.
Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye says at no time do they think customers and employees of the store were in immediate danger.
“We do not believe that there was any connection to IKEA. The IKEA patrons were never in any danger,” said Chief Dye after the incident. “We simply believe that this subject was on the street and just pulled right into the IKEA parking lot.”
Dye says the suspect fired at officers three separate times.
“We have no idea what the purpose of this person was or what he attempted to accomplish,” Dye said.
The investigation is ongoing.
