DALLAS(WBAP/KLIF)- Rock star Bono made a trip to Texas Thursday to accept the first ever George W. Bush medal for distinguished leadership for his efforts to combat aids in Africa.
President George W. Bush says that the lead singer of U2 was a critical partner in the effort
“It’s the work we began and the truth of the matter is it would have never made it out of congress had you not been engaged….the first time I met you, you knew more statistics and it was like you were coming right out of the CIA,” President Bush quipped.
The partnership between Bush and Bono that created PEPFAR (President’s Emergency Plan For Aids Relief) has saved over 20 million lives in Africa according to Bono.
