Jury Finds Haslet Man Guilty of Killing, Dismembering TWU Student

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Tarrant County jury found a Haslet man guilty of the gruesome murder of a Texas Women’s University student in September of 2016.

31-year-old Charles Dean Bryant was found guilty of both murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Jacqueline Vandagriff.

Prosecutors argued that Bryant had every intent to kill Vandagriff, whom he met at a Denton bar, pointing to the nature of how her body was dismembered and burned.

Her body was found at Acorn Woods park near Lake Grapevine on September 14th.

Surveillance footage showed that Bryant was the last person seen with Vandagriff. Jurors were also shown footage of Bryant purchasing a shovel at a Walmart and filling up a canister of gas on the night of Vandagriff’s death.

Bryant’s attorneys said she died during consensual sex involving asphyxiation and a zip tie. They argued that Bryant panicked and should have only been charged with tampering with evidence.

Jurors heard about a week of testimony before handing down the verdict Monday afternoon.

The sentencing phase is now underway. Bryant is facing up to life in prison.
