Investigators Looking into the Cause of Three-Alarm Fire at Irving Apartment Complex

IRVING  (WBAP/KLIF News) –  Fire crews are investigating what caused a three-alarm fire at an Irving apartment complex Thursday morning.

22 apartments at the Clarendon Apartment Homes off Beltline Road and Northgate suffered total losses after the fire broke at just before 8.

Irving Battalion Chief Rick Sanderson said although one building was destroyed, they’re lucky the fire didn’t spread even more given how strong the wind was blowing when firefighters arrived.

“When you have a strong wind and your’re driving a fire you have to be that much further ahead of it and it just burns that much faster and hotter,” he said.

Flames could be seen shooting through the roof of the two-story building.

Sanderson said it could take investigators a while to find out how the fire got started.

“We have three investigators on scene but it’s going to be a long process to make  the building safe… to be able to enter the building in the places we need to look…to determine what that is… it will be quite some time,” he said.

Two people suffered minor injures and several families have been displaced from their homes.
