RICHARDSON, Texas (WBAP/KLIF News) — Robert Stricker says he mows his lawn every so often and while it’s not in the best shape he’s not ashamed of it. He is embarrassed, however, after becoming the subject of a social media post that went viral.
The picture on Reddit shows a sign posted on Stricker’s front yard reading, “Your lawn was not treated today, your neighbor’s was.” The sign listed a phone number for a business named Dr. Green Lawn along with a list of services offered and pricing.
Stricker told WFAA he knows he should do yardwork more often. “When it gets a little out of hand, I come out here and I take care of it,” he explained. But when the sign appeared he took it personally.
That’s when he posted his displeasure and photo of the sign on Reddit, accusing Dr. Green Lawn of putting the sign in his lawn without permission and for attempting to shame him into buying their service.
The post got a lot of feedback and eventually came to the attention of the company that owned and admitted to planting the sign in Stricker’s grass. A company spokesperson told WFAA they never intended to upset anyone but have stopped the practice.
Stricker is surprised.
“Definitely never expected any actual change in policy or anything like that.”
Stricker gives Dr. Green Lawn credit for responding graciously to his objection. He also admits it made him a little more self-conscious and he plans to trim the grass more often from now on.
