DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — For all the recent talk about the housing market overheating in Texas and nearing a slowdown the supply of new and pre-owned houses listed for sale is still at the lowest inventory in 28 years.
The Dallas Morning News has published a new report from the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M. Research economist Dr. Luis Torres says existing homes have been in short supply for some time but the shortage is more pronounced now.
Statewide there was a 3.4 months supply of homes listed for sale; in Dallas-Ft. Worth, despite leading the nation in home building last year with 30,000 units, there is just a 2.2 months supply of vacant new homes.
A six month supply is considered a stable market.
