17th Medal of Honor Host City Program Underway in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE (WBAP/KLIF) – The 17th Medal of Honor Host City Program is underway Wednesday through the weekend with 17 Medal of Honor recipients in Gainesville after a lengthy motorcade out of DFW Airport.

There are several events planned during the four days. Included is a sold out Patriot Dinner on Thursday.

“It’s a very informal setting for people to come in and meet the recipients and enjoy some home-cooked fish and hush puppies,” said Medal of Honor Host City Program President Tommy Moore.

Friday’s festivities include another sold out event. The Medal of Honor Banquet.

“We have a real nice evening planned out for all the recipients. That is a ticketed event as well,” Moore said.

The weekend concludes with a military parade in Gainesville on Saturday.

While the recipients range from World War II veterans to those just coming home from Iraq or Afghanistan, a majority of this year’s recipients are from the Vietnam War era.
