Mural Honoring Dallas Officers Killed in July 7th Ambush to be Taken Down

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – An Oak Cliff mural honoring the officers killed in the 2016 Dallas police ambush is expected to be taken down.

The mural is painted on paneling at the intersection of Madison and Centre Street.

The owner of the property said he has been fined several times because the sign violates city code.

Valarie Zamarripa lost her son, Patrick, in the shootings and said the mural is a meaningful tribute to the officers killed.

“They want to show respect and honor our police and our fallen officers,” she said.

Since the mural has gone up, some citizens have said it’s seen as a comforting way to remember the tragedy.

Zamarripa said she’s looking for another location for the mural.

“We’re reaching out to several people but I haven’t heard back from them yet,” she said.

The property owner said he’s removing the mural to avoid future fines.

Zamarripa said she hope’s the tribute can be taken down without any damage.
