DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – DART has partnered with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving to make sure people attending tomorrow’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade get to and from the event safely.
DART’s Mark Ball said the agency will be “going green” early to provide service for passengers.
“Starting at 6 a.m. we add additional rail cars coming in from the north on the blue and the red line from the Plano area heading south to the three stations that will be used during the Greenville events,” he said.
He said a lot of people will be drinking, so the agency will have 100 DART employees on platforms to help assist riders.
“Making sure that they don’t step in front of oncoming traffic or rail…using the crosswalks…we’ll be using our cameras. Our command center will be open taking full advantage of being able to watch and spot things to send maintenance or police officers to a location if needed,” he said.
Every year, DART has noticed an increase in North Texans taking advantage of its services during major events that bring in heavy traffic.
Ball said there are numerous benefits to riding public transportation during those times.
“It’s safe riding with a group of people. Your not involved in traffic. Your not promoting air pollution. It’s little wear and tear on your car obviously. It’s five dollars round trip for a day pass,” he said.
It’s DART’s third busiest day behind Texas OU weekend and Columbus Day.
DART will be providing service from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
