ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Arlington is one step closer to its goal of being a destination for premiere sporting events.
City officials announced plans to gut the convention center and transform it into a multi-purpose E-Sports stadium by this fall.
Mayor Jeff Williams said the venue will shine an even bigger spot light on the city, which already features home stadiums for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
“We’re already on the map for these world class facilities and now we will add another with this E-Sports stadium,” he said.
Williams said the facility will still be able to host other events, like Ted Talks or conventions on the stadium’s main stage.
He thinks the facility will be a draw both locally and globally.
“I am excited to bring this industry to the entertainment capital of the Southwest and I know the gaming community across the globe is going to fall in love with this facility,” he said.
Williams said E-Sports is an industry projected to make more than a billion dollars this year and that the facility will be one of three major stadiums for the sports in the country.
