Hundreds of Vets Packed AT&T Stadium in Dallas for Job Fair

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Hundreds of veterans packed the AT&T stadium in Dallas to meet with prospective employers Thursday as they look to transition to careers outside of the military.

More than 500 veterans attended a job fair hosted by Recruit Military.

The group’s vice president Chris Stephens said the transition can be tough for people moving from military careers into other fields.

“When you’re transitioning out of the military, you’re not really used to hunting for a job,” he said.

Russell Tritor is going through that transition right now. He’s a chief in the Navy and said he will wrap up a 20-year military career at the end of the summer.

“I am 37-year-old and I am literally starting over from scratch. It’s a little bit nerve racking. Things like this definitely help,” he said.

Tritor said he was excited to get the opportunity to sit down with some of the more than 100 employers that were present the event.

Dina Colopolis is the Senior H.R. Manager for Pepsico and said the company is always eager to hire vets.

“Their prior leadership experience and the skills that they develop while they’re in the military kind of just tend to translate and be a great fit for our company. We’re looking for all ranges of jobs,” she said.

The Department of Labor said the current veteran unemployment rate is under 4 percent.

The group is hosting another veteran job fair in Dallas in May. You can find details on the event here.
