TxDOT Crew Discovers Makeshift Tunnel Near Mexico Border

(WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Border Patrol agents are examining a tunnel found near El Paso that runs under ground from Mexico.

Authorities say a TxDOT road crew came across the makeshift tunnel after a cave-in during routine road construction. Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Hull said agents found that the tunnel was supported by wooded beams.
“After excavation it was determined that the tunnel traveled 25 yards north of the international border and stopped,” Agent Hull said during a press conference Thursday.
Crews immediately filled the tunnel with concrete. Authorities are unsure how long the tunnel has been in place and are asking anyone with information about the tunnel to come forward.
