BEAUMONT (WBAP/KLIF News) – An escaped inmate is back in prison after authorities caught him running back to the facility with a large duffel bag of alcohol, tobacco and home-cooked food.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals were on surveillance Thursday night after getting tips about inmates escaping from the complex from the back side of the facility and crossing over onto private land owned by a local rancher.
The inmates would then pick up the contraband and take it back into the facility.
Investigators observed a car drive onto the property and then saw 25-year-old Joshua Hansen of Dallas running back towards the prison.
He was captured with the loot before he could get back in.
The duffel bag contained 3 bottles of Brandy, 1 bottle of Whisky, numerous bags of Burglar tobacco, packaged snacks, fruit and a large amount of home cooked food.
Hansen was in prison on narcotics charges.
He was booked into the Jefferson County jail on a charge of Escape and Possession of Marijuana.
