DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – New statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving gives Texas 2 1/2 stars on cracking down on drunk driving.
The report show Harris County led Texas and the nation in drunk driving crashes in 2016 with 2,941.
Ron Sylvan of MADD’s North Texas chapter said Dallas County was a close second.

“What becomes more disturbing is if you look at what would be the DFW Metroplex, combine Dallas County, Collin County and Denton County, we are far worse than the Houston area,” he said
Sylvan said what many states have done that Texas has not to decrease drunk driving is adding a compliance piece to the Ignition Interlock laws.
“The compliance based piece of the law which says if you haven’t learn your lesson basically and you get in your car after you’ve been drinking then the clock resets,” he said.
Court orders for interlock devices typically last 6 months.
Drunk driving is still the number one cause of death on American roadways.
