FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF NEWS) – A Fort Worth man has been identified as one of five employees killed following an explosion on an Oklahoma oil rig.

Authorities confirmed that 35-year-old Josh Ray’s remains, along with four others, were found Tuesday, a day after the explosion at the drilling site near Quinton, Oklahoma about 100 miles southeast of Tulsa Monday morning.

According to the Associated Press, initial reports indicate that there was an uncontrolled release of gas that caught fire and that an employee at the scene tried to shut down the well.

The massive explosion sent plumes of smoke and fire into the air that could be seen for miles.

The fire was so intense, crews were not able to stabilize the site until the next day in order to recover the remains of the missing workers.

Houston-based Patterson-UTI Energy said they’re investigating ways to prevent this type of explosion from happening in the future.
