ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) — The Arlington Police Department will soon be fully outfitted with body cameras.
The department is giving the cameras to all officers ranked Lieutenant and below.
The department says they started the process a couple years ago by looking at the different types of cameras available, and trying some of those cameras out in pilot programs.
Once the department was sure they wanted to move forward with a body camera program, they started looking for a company.
“Body worn cameras have been out there a number of years,” says LT. Leo Daniels. “Unfortunately there’s some good technology out there, some not so good. We wanted to make sure we get it right.”
A grant from the governor’s office will pay a portion of the cost, and the department will take care of the rest.
Daniels says he hopes to have all 615 body cameras on the street by March.
