Finisar/Apple Partnership Expands to Sherman

DALLAS (KLIF/WBAP) – Apple’s CEO says the company is looking to expand to a second headquarters, following other tech companies like Amazon and Google.

On Wednesday, Tim Cook announced the second hub will be built somewhere in North America, and will eventually employ about 20,000 people.

The company expects to invest $350 billion during the next five years in taxes, building projects and personnel.

What you may not know is some of that money is already in North Texas.

Finisar Corporation, based in Allen, is expanding a partnership with Apple to build parts for the iPhone X.

Right now the company is outfitting an existing 700,000 square foot plant, and hiring some of the upper management needed at the new location. When all is said and done, the plant will add 500 high-skill and high paying jobs to North Texas.

Apple released a statement on the expansion, saying they’re committed to spending at least $1 Billion with companies based in the US. They say when combined with the company’s nearby plant in Allen, Finisar’s payroll in North Texas is should be about $65 million.

Company officials say parts should start shipping from Sherman in the second half of this year.
