GARLAND  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Garland Fire Department said almost 175 homes will be without gas overnight after a construction crew cut a natural gas line belonging to Atmos.

Fire Marshal Mike Vanbuskirk said about 29 homes on Parkmont Drive near Garland Avenue had to be evacuated Thursday afternoon while firefighters checked for natural gas inside the homes.

“Atmos was able to get the gas lines turned off pretty quickly,” he said.

Atmos Energy has stepped up to help residents overnight.

“From what I understand Atmos is willing to put those people up in a hotel until they can get their gas turned back on,” he said.

No injuries were reported.
