Dallas Mayor: Proper Policies in Place on Sexual Harassment

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings assures the proper policies are in place within city government after the #MeToo movement sparked a national conversation about sexual harassment in the workplace.

“We have the policies in place to make sure that women will never be in a situation where they are sexually harassed and don’t have an outlet to talk about this,” Rawlings said in an exclusive interview with WBAP’s Eric Bushman.

Rawlings, who has continuously called to fight against domestic violence in the city, says sexual harassment in the workplace is a close cousin to domestic violence in a home.

“It is, fundamentally, someone in power over leveraging that power to get what they want,” Rawlings said.

Rawlings said he was surprised when news broke earlier this month that former Dallas County Health Director Zach Thompson was accused of sexual abuse and harassment. Those allegations led to Thompson’s firing.

“If someone does that, they need to kind of move on,” Rawlings said.
