Attorney Tells Jury His Client Did It, Strategy Backfires

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KLIF/WBAP) – The Supreme Court will hear arguments today about a death row case with an unusual twist.

They’re set to hear the case of Robert McCoy, a member of Louisiana’s Death Row population. He was convicted of killing three people back in 2011. But what’s unusual about this case is how he was convicted.

Though McCoy says he’s innocent, during his initial trial, McCoy’s attorney went against his client’s wishes and told the jury he did it. The attorney, who is no longer practicing, says he did it to avoid the death penalty. But the strategy backfired, and McCoy was given the death penalty anyway.

Dave and Amy talked with Attorney and expert on Federal Law, Dr. Nick Oberheiden about the case on the Morning Drive.
