Garland, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The mayor of Garland has officials filed his resignation letter.
Douglas Athas announced in October the would step down — this after the city council approved the demolition of a former National Guard amory to make room for a new dog and skate park.
At that time, Athas said he was frustrated with the process and that he couldn’t morally be part of a government that he said became dangerous and broken.
In his letter, he thanked citizens for their support, and says he’ll serve until the May election.
