Dallas Announces New Partner in Smart City Plan

DALLAS (KLIF/WBAP) — The city of Dallas has a new partner in the push to become a “Smart City.”
Ericsson has announced it will help the city develop its “Advanced Traffic Management System.”
City officials have long wanted to use data to try and elevate congestion, but without interfering.
They say this way they can gather a large amount of information and actually put it to practice.
Crews with Ericsson started installing sensors and cameras at intersections in Dallas back in the fall.
But this isn’t the first time high-tech traffic monitoring equipment has popped up in Dallas. AT&T partnered with the city on a pilot program, The West End “Living Lab.”
However, the city chose Ericsson for the full-scale project because officials say their system gives them more flexibility
The “Advanced Traffic Management System” is just one part of the vision the Dallas Innovation. Alliance has in mind for the city.
The group’s mission statement says the main objective is to move Dallas forward using technology, and to make it a “driving force” for new technologies that will improve resident’s quality of life.
