Repairs Being Made to Denton County Courthouse After Fire on the Square

DENTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Repairs are being made to the Denton County Courthouse after a fire destroyed a mini mall on the downtown square.

The courthouse suffered more than $50,000 in smoke damage from the fire. The Commissioners Court held a meeting Wednesday to waive the bidding process for repairs.

“Because this is an emergency we needed the repairs to happen right away,” said County Administrator, Kate Lynass.

Officials said the smoke entered the courthouse through an HVAC system and caused damaged to the first three floors of the building. Until further notice, county staff will work out of other county offices as needed and Commissioners Court will meet at the Denton County Elections multipurpose room.

The cause of the fire is still be investigated.
