DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Oncor is sending around 80 utility workers from Texas to Puerto Rico next month to help restore power.
The company said its sending crews as part of partner utility effort with the island which is working to fully restore its power grid several months after Hurricane Maria slammed onto its shores.
Oncor’s Kris Spears said they’re ready for the challenge.
“There have been thousands of utility workers on the ground in Puerto Rico from the mainland and our time has come and we’re more than happy to lend a hand,” he said.
The company started the process of moving the 70 trucks being used for the project Wednesday morning.
“This morning we are leaving from across our service territory headed to Lake Charles, Louisiana from there our trucks will be put on a barge and shipped to the island,” said Spears.
The team will consist of people that can perform various jobs related to restoring power.
“We’re sending several different job roles. So, it’s not just linemen. It’s trouble shooters. It’s damage evaluators,” said Spears.
The crew will be in Puerto Rico for 30 days starting in mid-January.
