Tx Dot Crews Treat Area Roads Ahead of Cold, Wet Weather

NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – TxDot crews in North Texas are keeping an eye on roadways with freezing temperatures and rain possible this week.

Tony Hartzel with the TxDot Dallas District said elevated road structures in Northern Collin County and Northwestern Denton County have been treated with brine as a precaution.

“Because we are using brine we can get out way ahead of it when crews are available.

It will really give us the time to actually treat it adequately,” he said.

Although the temperature is expected to drop, Hartzel said the treatment the department is using will keep drivers safe in the event of cold, wet weather.

“It will last for 7 to 10 days. What that does is if there is frozen precipitation that hits the pavement…it keeps that precipitation from sticking to the roadway,” he said.

Hartzell said as of now, the weather hasn’t prompted a need for treatment anywhere else in the region.
