(WBAP/KLIF) – The death of a U.S. Border Agent in West Texas in November is still being investigated.
The FBI hasn’t ruled out an accident. It’s been more than a month since Agent Rogelio Martinez died after he and another agent were found in a culvert while patrolling the Mexico border in West Texas. The agent who survived was left without a memory of what happened late that night in the remote part of the border. He and Martinez suffered head injuries. It was believed early in the investigation that the agents were attacked.
“It’s different in San Diego than it is the wide open spaced along the Rio Grande River in Texas,” said U.S. Senator John Cornyn.
The remoteness of the incident has caused little information to be known. The FBI hasn’t named suspects or even claimed officially that it was an assault. The National Border Patrol Council, however, insists that the agents were attacked. Law enforcement agencies across the nation have spoken of the agents bravery, despite not knowing exactly how they were injured and killed.
“It honors me and every law enforcement agent that he was going to do that, said Border Agrent Ramiro Cordero.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward in the case, but as the wording suggests, it isn’t necessarily looking for suspects. The announcement asked for information leading to the resolution of the case. The State of Texas also announced a cash reward.
Agent Martinez’ death re-emerged conversation of border protection and a border wall. The President is expected to look over wall prototypes next month.
