Texas, DFW Showing Steady Growth

(WBAP/KLIF) – Texas is growing in population and much of the growth is being seen in the DFW metroplex.

The U.S. Census Bureau released its 2017 population estimate this week, and Texas was the top state in numeric growth with close to 400,000 new residents. State Demographer Dr. Lloyd Potter said a lot of the growth in North Texas comes from people moving to the area for jobs.

“And they tend to be high paid and high skilled positions,” said Potter.

Potter said that while a lot of growth comes from people moving to the state, there has also been more births than deaths recently in Texas. The Lone Star state is the second most populous state behind California with more than 28 million people. Texas also ranked in the top 10 in percentage growth, at just over 1 percent from last year. Idaho saw the largest growth increase. The Census Bureau is planning for its full population count, which it does every ten years, in 2020.
